reflection
In our Pop Culture class we learnt many new things. Some of them I knew before this class, some of them were new for me. We spoke about culture in general meaning, little bit about American “melting pot” and “salad bowl”, how many people from different countries live together and share their cultures. The most interesting thing for me was culture shock with its stages. People who came from different countries knew this feeling, when you cannot understand other people even if you can speak their language. It was really interesting to realize what my stage is for now; I remember that I wanted to return home, how badly I felt here, before I started to change my life and to study. Also we learnt an iceberg model of culture, counter, mainstream, folk and subculture definitions. It was the easiest. Then, we read about race, it was too boring, the same like the virtual world identity. I’m disappointed about this subject, but it was my mistake to take POP culture, I did not pay attention to the word POP! I come to this class only because of wonderful and interesting teacher. I think all this information is not useful, but good for improving English. We learnt how to use blackboard, skydrive, voki, posters and to use blog. I like glogster, I think I will use in future, not only for school projects.
